Rejections, DNAs & other Quirks
- Patient must book with GSTT for dropping off a sample → advise the patient to call the lab 48 hours after the referral is sent, to arrange an appointment (contact details below, and on the request forms).
- Advise the patient that:
- they should not have intercourse or masturbate for 2-7 days before
producing the sample - this helps obtain more accurate results.
- the hands and genitalia should be clean and clear of any substance such as soap
lubricant or normal condoms.
- the sample must be produced by masturbation (stimulation by hand) and the entire specimen collected in the specimen container provided.
- We can supply the SEMA silver-lidded sample container to the patient if they wish to produce the sample at home. If patient chooses to do this, inform them that when they transport the sample, it must be kept warm (inside trouser or jacket pocket).
- If patient cannot get the sample to their appointment within 30-50 minutes of production → they can make an appointment to produce the sample in a private room on site.
- As a default, Synnovis will send results via email directly to the requesting GP’s nhs.net email, within 10 days of the receipt of the sample. Therefore, requestors should only use the surgery generic email, NOT their individual one, to avoid the risk of the result not being transferred to the patient’s EMIS record.
